044SC - Trainee Planning and Environmental Policy Analyst

Location: Glasgow
Salary: £23,151
Discipline: Planning, Environmental, Business
Hours: 37 Hours a week
Start: August/September 2024 for 12 Months.

Company

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the world’s largest integrated utility companies and a world leader in wind energy. They’re building new solar, wind, battery and green hydrogen infrastructure - ready for the increasing demand for more green, secure and affordable energy to help deliver a better future, quicker.

You will be required to support the Planning and Environmental team in the Onshore Renewables business. It is an exciting time to join the renewable energy industry and help shape a fast-moving policy landscape where planning and environmental issues are central to the achievement of national priorities. Put simply, consenting holds the key to making infrastructure projects happen and maximising the economic and environmental success of renewable energy deployment. The delivery of consents through the planning system and associated environmental regimes will also be a key factor in the Renewables Team (RT) realising our projected pipeline and business growth.

The Planning, Environmental Policy and Aviation Team within RT is responsible for leading our policy advocacy and strategic work to facilitate the efficient deployment of onshore and offshore renewables projects across the UK and Ireland. This includes co-ordinating RT’s response to planning and environmental policy consultations, managing strategic stakeholder engagement with Government departments and consultees, advising on major infrastructure consenting regimes and addressing aviation related barriers to the deployment of renewables.

Discipline

Graduate, final year or penultimate year sandwich placement – would suit candidates with an interest in spatial planning or environmental policy. University-level knowledge of spatial planning and environmental policy across the UK would be desirable.

Activities and Responsibilities

Through this year-long placement you will contribute to monitoring the development of environmental and planning policies and co-ordinating engagement with key stakeholders. A key element of the placement will be to develop new tools and processes to monitor public and community responses to emerging planning policies and assess their implications for RT’s development projects. This intelligence should be used to support both the consenting of RT’s projects and our policy advocacy work. You will also assist the team’s Senior Policy Analysts (onshore planning, offshore planning and aviation) with internal reporting, the preparation of responses to relevant policy consultations and the development of briefings across a range of planning and environmental topics.
