Company Background

The company is seeking a bright enthusiastic student to support the UK Business Planning & Development Team for one full year. The company is one of the biggest energy companies in the UK. They supply energy to c5 million households and businesses. They have invested millions in wind farms and thanks to this, in January 2019 they became the first integrated energy company in the UK to produce 100% green electricity. The role is open to undergraduates or graduates working towards a degree that involves data analysis. The company has supported Year in Industry students for many years with great success stories.

 

Key Accountabilities

Work with our UK Business Planning & Development Team to provide support in preparing and reporting on all financial and commercial aspects of the business, in a business projecting spend of circa £800m per annum across various operational departments. This will mainly involve being creative and innovative with new reporting and data capture methodologies, making existing processes more streamlined and efficient.

 

Discipline

Pre-university or undergraduate planning to study/currently studying for a degree related to Data Science/Finance/Business Studies.

 

 

Activities and Responsibilities

  • Financial & operational reporting
  • Creation of financial & operational reports
  • Collecting, analysing and interpreting extremely large amounts of data
  • Analysing existing reporting and designing new reporting structures and methodologies
  • Implementing and communicating new reporting methodologies and enhancements
  • Manage data projects and communicate developments clearly
  • Co-ordination / updating of activities or actions
  • Future proof all processes so they can be handed over and run by any member of the team on an ongoing basis

 

Critical Factors

Should have reasonable business acumen awareness/knowledge, be confident with and can demonstrate strong data analytical skills and good knowledge of MS Office and in particular excellent Excel skills, including the ability to interpret and create formulae, look ups and pivots.

 

Experience

Ideally, the person would have had a part-time job previously to demonstrate business practices and awareness.
