Ocean & Earth Science at the University of Southampton

What’s it all about and what will I be doing?

Explore the different processes that drive the global Earth system! Combine geology, geography and oceanography, and develop a wide range of practical and transferable skills.

Over a four-day period you will:

  • get experiences investigating the structure of our coastal seas - from tides to marine life that inhabits this important habitat.

  • be introduced to a wider view of environmental geoscience, looking at impacts of climate change and how we interact with our coastal regions.

  • spend time on board our teaching and research vessel Callista in Southampton Water and the Solent

  • go on a field trip to Lulworth Cove to investigate this unique environment.

  • learn about methods and techniques of sampling the coastal systems and groups work on data presentation.

  • present to showcase what you have achieved on the last day of the course (family and friends will be welcome to attend)

The course will be run from the University of Southampton at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS) - one of the world's largest research and training centres, - with meals at the centre and accommodation close by within walking distance.
