EDT and The Drax Foundation partner to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders

We are delighted to have been awarded a grant from the Drax Foundation to inspire over 500 young people across Yorkshire about STEM and careers in the renewable energy sector.

Funding will support the delivery of hands-on sessions designed to boost STEM skills, help students feel confident in applying STEM concepts, and to build skills that will help them prepare for the world of work, including teamwork, problem solving, and communication.

As part of EDT and The Drax Foundation’s shared commitment to addressing the underrepresentation of women in STEM, a cohort of 30 girls will go on to receive additional support, including completing an industry challenge with the support of a mentor, and information about careers in the renewables sector and the pathways into those careers.

Jane Breach, UK Community and Education Manager at Drax said:

“At Drax, we are passionate about supporting young people to develop the skills they need to play a part in the energy transition and a green future. We are proud to partner with EDT to deliver engaging, hands-on STEM experiences that will inspire students across Yorkshire. We’re especially pleased to support a focused programme for girls, helping to break down barriers and encourage greater gender diversity in STEM careers."

Julie Feest, CEO at EDT said:

“Climate change and sustainability are key concerns for the young people EDT works with, so we are excited to be able to offer them an insight into Drax who, are the UK’s largest single source of renewable electricity. Grant funding from the Drax Foundation will help to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders and help them to build the skills they’ll need to play their part in engineering a more sustainable future.”
