Trustee Position

This is a particularly exciting time to join the EDT as we hone our strategic plans including the further development of our nationally renowned Industrial Cadets programme.

We are looking to refresh our Board of Trustees by appointing several new trustees.

We welcome applications from individuals from a wide range of backgrounds. Applicants who can strengthen our knowledge on safeguarding, finance, further and higher education and awarding bodies or charity governance would be especially welcome, but we are keen to hear from applicants with a diverse range of experiences.

Responsibilities & Commitments

As a Trustee, you will be a Non-Executive Director of the EDT and member of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is responsible for the EDT’s strategic direction and ensures its financial sustainability, the integrity of its activities and progress towards its goals and objectives.

You will have the opportunity to join EDT’s graduation and celebration events where you can directly experience the difference we make to young people.

You will attend four Trustee meetings a year (each four hours in duration), as well as acting as a member of at least one sub-committee (Audit & Risk, Remuneration, Nominations, Governance, Finance). This usually requires an additional commitment of approximately one hour per month. The Trustee role is unpaid. Meetings are usually undertaken virtually with the exception of two in-person meetings per year in central London, for which travel expenses are paid.

You will:

  • Provide expert advice and guidance based on your professional experience
  • Review information relating to the charity’s operational and financial performance
  • Shape strategic plans
  • Work collaboratively with your fellow Trustees and the Executive team to safeguard the charity’s long-term success

What we're looking for in our Trustees

  • Passionate about the EDT’s mission and committed to helping the charity move forwards
  • A strategic thinker
  • Pragmatic and flexible
  • Willing to constructively challenge and share your views and insights
  • Consultative, constructive and supportive
