Apply for Routes into STEM

Applications for academic year 2019/20 are now open.



There are limited spaces on each course so please apply early. If you are successful, offers will be emailed to you and you will be provided with Attendance Instructions shortly before the course starts. Our courses are very popular and if you do not receive a place we will try to accommodate alternative options.


You will need the following details in order to submit your Routes Into STEM application to EDT:

  • The name of your school, your teacher's name, email address and phone number . Please note, the course is fully supervised by EDT and no teacher attendance is required.

  • 2 x in case of emergency contacts who must both be over 18 years old; including their email addresses & mobile numbers 


Before submitting your application: 

  • It's important that you seek approval from your parents / guardians before you proceed with your application (particularly if they will need to pay for your place)

  • We recommend that you make your teacher/s aware of your intention of applying if you are submitting your application independently

  • CHECK YOUR SPELLING - importantly on any email addresses & names 

  • Include any dietary requirements or medical conditions

  • Ensure that you have a way to pay for your place, the course costs £140. 

  • Opportunities for bursaries may be available, however, financial evidence is required before being considered.

Who can apply?

Students in Year 9 & 10 who live in the surrounding course location areas and are interested to know more about the rewarding and challenging careers STEM subjects can lead to.

Can I apply for a bursary?

If your school is unable to offer any financial support, we may be able to support you through our bursary scheme. Due to limited sponsorship we are only able to grant 1 full bursary or 2 half bursaries per course*. If you would like to apply for a bursary please read below for more information about supporting evidence. Please make sure that you take the following steps to be considered for financial assistance: Indicate on your application form that you require financial assistance and either; Please supply the supporting financial documentation as indicated to us via email, or If you are a Pupil Premium / free school meals student, please ask your teacher to email us confirmation of your status to

What are the course requirements?

There are no academic requirements for this course as it focuses on all routes which require varying levels of academic achievements. However we look at the following to access your suitability to the course: -Passion for STEM subjects & interest in hands on careers -Your location in regards to the course that is being delivered -Accurately filled in applications - attention to detail or lack of, communicates volumes - so please check your spelling and grammar

How are courses allocated?

Our courses only take a maximum of 30 students. If your application is successful we will make an offer of a place to you a minimum of 2 weeks before the course. Offers will be sent to you via email (so please make sure that you double & triple check your email address before you submit your application. If we are unable to offer you a place on the course, we will email you to confirm this - but we wait until the first round of offers have been accepted/declined before doing this, in case we are then able to make you a second round offer.

How do I accept the offer? PARENT ACCEPTANCE FORM

In order to accept your offer you will need to do the following by the deadline communicated on your offer email: -Go online and pay any remaining course fees -Print, sign and scan your parental acceptance form -Email a copy of the signed and completed form back to us If for any reason you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer your place to another student on the waiting list.

Can I receive financial assistance?

To ensure our courses are inclusive we want to make sure that you have a good awareness of the funding options available to you. If your total household income is below £20,000 and you may struggle to cover the fee, then the following options are available to you: -You may be eligible for Pupil Premium funding from your school. Speak to your teacher for more information. -Your school may also have some other funding available to help cover the cost of your course. EDT is able to fund a small number of 50% & 100% bursaries. These bursaries are competitive due to demand so please ensure you follow the bursary process outlined in these FAQs.

How do I make payment for the course?

If your application is successful you will receive payment instructions in your offer email. We accept most major debit and credit cards (unfortunately we do not accept American Express). We encourage you to pay using debit card as the charges on a credit card are too high for us to absorb as a charity. If you can only pay by credit card and you have the means we would encourage you to select our optional £10 payment to help us cover these charges. Before making a payment, please ensure you can attend all three days of the course as do not offer refunds.

Can I receive a refund if I do not attend the course?

As we are a leanly resourced charity we unfortunately cannot offer refund, however to ensure that you are not left out of pocket we recommend that you do the following before you pay for your place: - Check course dates, make sure that they don't clash with any holidays, exams, school proms or other prior commitments. - If you have any queries, please contact us on 01707 386 151 before making a payment for your place. -Ensure you are able to travel to our 3 delivery partners throughout the course as they will be in 3 different locations -Make your parents/guardians/school or whoever is funding your place aware that you intend to submit an application. -Please make sure you are happy before you pay! In the unlikely event that a course is cancelled, your fees will of course be refunded to you.
