THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
bronze shield.png

Industrial Cadets Bronze

The natural world around us operates in seasons and cycles where living things flourish, die and decompose safely into the ground. Humans have disrupted nature and created a linear system where we take, make, use and dispose creating a lot of waste. Teams will investigate the circular economy and suggest practical changes which can be made by organisations such as schools, companies or local councils to adopt a circular economy.

ENVIRONMENT & SUSTAINABILITY

Industrial Cadets Bronze

Teams will imagine their school is on an island and their challenge is to transform it so it can be fully functional and self-sustainable in an island setting. The island can be in any part of the world and so students will choose a geographical setting and site design for their school which helps them to solve the challenge.  Teams can choose which elements to focus on such as energy, resources, travel and waste.

From the moment we get up each morning, we interact with smart technology and it is quickly becoming an essential part of our way of life. Smart technology is providing solutions to real world problems to make systems more efficient, effective and sustainable. We use smart technology daily with our smartphones, watches, TVs, heating and personal assistants such as Siri and Alexa. The challenge is to develop an innovative proposal for a smart technology which will help to improve everyday life.

CLIMATE CHANGE
bronze shield.png

Industrial Cadets Bronze

The earth’s climate is changing. Around the world, lots of us are experiencing changes to our weather patterns and seasons.  It’s hotter, colder, wetter and drier than ever before. Most buildings were not made to withstand all this weather, which can be dangerous for the people living and working in them. The challenge is to research the effects of climate change, think about how these might affect your community and recommend ways that people could make new or existing buildings more resilient to extreme climate conditions.
