The placement is open to both pre-university and undergraduates with a start date of September 2020 for 1 full year.  The placement is with one of the world’s largest integrated utility companies and a world leader in wind energy.  They are the first integrated energy company in the UK to generate 100% green electricity. Their focus is on wind energy, smart grids and driving the change to a cleaner, electric future and they are investing over £4m every working day to make this happen.


Key Accountabilities

Support the Group Financial Accounting (GFA) department as follows:

Support the Group Financial Accounting (GFA) department as follows:

  1. Business Processes: Assist in ensuring that existing business processes are accounted for accurately in the general ledger and related accounting models.
  2. Ledger management, accounting and reporting: Post centralised transactions accurately and timeously and prepare reports to assist in the ledger management process.
  3. Controls: Prepare reports and analysis to assist centralised control processes for the general ledger and related accounting modules for the company.


Activities and Responsibilities

Assist the Group Accounting Manager/Group Derivative Accounting Manager in the following:

  1. Post specific centralised transactions, as appropriate ensuring that the postings are accurate, timely and that the associated processes are efficient;
  2. Posting daily foreign exchange journals to the general ledger & assist in the analysis of the monthly foreign exchange trades;
  3. Prepare various reports in the general ledger ensuring that controls are maintained across the group;
  4. Assist in any ad-hoc projects as and when required

Critical Factors

  • Applies attention to detail when completing all tasks;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills;
  • Knowledge of Excel as work is predominantly spreadsheet-based;
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload;
  • Adapt quickly to change in a fast-moving environment.
