An opportunity for an Engineering undergraduate Project Assistant, this is a 12 month placement commencing in the summer/ autumn of 2020

Salary TBC but c£16.5K p/a

Role Description:

To assist the Engineering team with various tasks and projects which would include the following:

 

  • Contractor Management
  • Reliability Improvement Projects
  • Safety Management
  • Engineering Cost Control
  • Design Change for Improvement Projects

 

The company currently has 19 employees.  Being part of this small team will allow you to have the opportunity to manage your own projects from the start of your placement, with support from the Engineering team therefore  enabling you to gain the most out of your time with the company.  This placement will provide you with the perfect blend of project management and hands on engineering.

 

The work is very much project led and previous students in this role have:

 

  • Completed a Rail Safety Awareness course and visited various maintenance sites around the UK, viewed wagons and had the chance to implement engineering ideas.
  • Gained experience in a varied working environment, as there are often multiple projects on-going simultaneously.
  • Attended inter-departmental meetings, supplier meetings and gained an insight into the operation and finance side of the business.
  • Lead innovation and improvement projects.

 

The company is looking for a bright engineering student, who will be proactive with their workload, possessing the ability to manage their own time effectively with projects they are assigned, and those that they develop independently.

 

Upon successful completion of the placement, there is the potential for candidates to have their final year, and where applicable MSc, sponsored by the company which will enable them to work whilst completing their further education on a part-time basis.

 

Essential: Must have a full UK driving licence and ideally, own transport
