Description of Placement:

 

We are looking for 1 student this year and they will be actively involved with implementing business improvement projects across the whole business. It will be a cross functional role working within Operations, Planning, Engineering and Supply Chain to support business improvement activities.

 

The student will start with taking part in company-based training to gain an understanding of the current internal processes within a dynamic manufacturing environment.  Ultimately, we want to meet the needs and deadlines of our customers in a timely and efficient manner and are using appropriate analytical techniques to support continuous improvements.  The student will be given responsibility for the business improvement project areas but will be supported by the management team in the development and implementation of any change.

 

The placement will involve dealing with day to day queries, problem resolution, change management and on occasions, interfacing with customers and suppliers. This years’ projects will focus on measuring and improving our manufacturing operations. This could include, tooling design and improvement, cycle time measurement and improvements, waste elimination, manufacturing floor layout etc.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES:

Ideally, you should be looking to study an Engineering discipline possibly manufacturing or mechanical engineering.

 

You should relish a demanding and dynamic environment where deadlines are tight and must be met.  You will need to be able to work as part of a team but take responsibility for your actions and meet the deadline required. 

 

You should also be computer literate, have good attention to detail and be confident presenting yourself in a professional manner in customer/supplier facing situations.

 

Good communication skills will be essential as you will be expected to interface with different people in engineering, sales, supply chain, operations and Fabrinet’s customers/suppliers too.

 

This placement offers students a good opportunity to experience developing manufacturing process requirements from project inception at the initial request for quotation stage, through to final released production for OEM customers operating in a range of markets such as Aerospace, Military, Oil & Gas, Energy, Commercial and Industrial.
