Placement and project overview
“The project is part of a major new product launch that is currently ongoing: We are designing an active magnetic bearing controller for high volume applications.
The particular project will involve the automated production test environment for the power electronics and sensor cards used within this new product.
This test environment for the power card is implemented in Labview with additional custom test fixture cards.
The fully automated test environment for the sensor cards is still to be developed, but will be based on similar techniques.
The student will “take ownership” of the test environments (in particular the test software – written in Labview and Teststand) and as we go into volume production will be involved in diagnosing test failures and making modifications to the test environment (both hardware and software) as appropriate. Training will be provided.
The project will provide the successful intern with in-depth exposure to:
- Design and use of modern power electronics
- Analogue electronics
- Use of Labview, including Labview and TestStand programming”
In addition, the project will be of benefit to a student also looking to gain exposure to a broad range of technologies including high speed digital electronics, DSP, embedded software and mechanical engineering.
Open to Pre-university or undergraduate applicants currently studying or going onto study Electronic/ Electrical Engineering or similar disciplines, with a passion for engineering and technology. You will either live within a 50 mile radius of Worthing or will be wiling to relocate to the area for the duration of a placement.
