Company Background

 

This is a cutting-edge technology development consultancy company specialising in devices within regulated markets. During the year you will be a team member on a range of projects to create exciting new products and technologies. Their main work is in the field of innovative medical devices, but they work across a range of industries and are constantly presented with interesting challenges. Example projects could be in drug delivery devices, less-invasive surgery or early-stage innovation, and they have an ethical policy to ensure that all their work helps to improve people’s lives. The company has a collaborative, team-orientated environment with a strong culture for learning and personal development.

 

Discipline

 

Pre-University/School or College Leaver applying or already studying engineering, physics, materials science, or a related subject at university and be strong academically with good physics and maths A levels.

 

Activities and Responsibilities

 

The role will include research into new technologies and helping them to build and test prototypes in their laboratory. You will gain experience in getting new technologies to work, and discover the criteria that make commercially-driven R&D projects successful. You will discover how new products can be developed to overcome challenges in usability, business requirements, manufacture, and regulatory approval.

 

 As a member of one of the teams, working directly on client-facing projects, you will learn how to write technical reports and prepare information for presentation to clients. Depending upon which projects arise, there may be opportunities to take part in client meetings and phone calls. There are likely to be opportunities to take part in training and personal development, alongside permanent staff. Furthermore, the company will provide hands on support during the placement, including mentoring from senior members of staff.

 

Technical Skills/Knowledge

 

Students applying to study or studying an engineering subjects , physics, materials science, or a related subject at university and be strong academically with good physics and maths A levels.
