General comments about the type of student we are looking for:
Attractive candidates are likely to already have an interest in how things work and are likely to have a hobby which touches engineering such as things mechanical/physical or electronics and/or software. This will be backed up with excellent academic results in the physical sciences and maths. They also will need to fit in to a very enthusiastic and committed team of friendly, communicative and able people. It will be of benefit if they can demonstrate that they have worked before and have a solid work ethic.
General Comments about the job:
We are a company of about 40 employees which gets involved in a wide range of technically challenging projects. We all work in an open plan office and so the student will interact with everyone from junior engineers to the MD. They will see how a small company works.
They will be expected to do work that is commensurate with their experience and competence. This could include building and testing prototypes, attending brainstorms, helping with design tasks, carrying out research as well as administrative duties. They are very unlikely to be focussed on one thing. The company works across a wide spectrum of industries, resulting in a broad experience for the successful candidate. This, I believe, makes this company a very attractive place to work.
