COMPANY BACKGROUND:

A global manufacturer and supplier of a range of semiconductors. At our site in Oldham, we have a Wafer Fab as well as offices which house departments such as Quality, Design, Sales, etc.

 

MAIN PLACEMENT PURPOSE

This role would allow the candidate to be exposed to many parts of the process of introducing new products into the market with particular focus on design and characterisation of completed wafers and finished packaged parts. The candidate would be involved in a dedicated project which could potentially involve the release of a new part.

 

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:

  • Understand the different TVS products available in the market and what governs their suitability for a particular application.
  • TCAD Simulation of processes and device characteristics to understand what governs datasheet parameters.
  • Define the split plan of the process and the layout and interface with process integration engineers to execute the DOE plan.
  • Characterisation of completed wafers and packaged devices using specialist equipment.
  • Analysis, interpretation and reporting of results.

 

The applicant will be required to work with a variety of people across manufacturing, engineering and other departments and so should be personable with good communication skills.

 

The successful candidate will undertake an initial period of training, which will benefit them to gain a better understanding of how the group functions and where it fits in with the rest of the site and wider organisation.

 

Specific training will also be given on the various lab equipment available for characterisation of TVS products.

During the placement the successful candidate will be supported/mentored by experienced engineers and managers.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES:

You will be computer literate (MS Office), enthusiastic and have excellent communication and analytical skills both written and verbal as you will be communicating with people at all levels within the business. 

 

An appreciation of basic semiconductor theory is an advantage as well as some knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing.

 

You will need to demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team. This will require the self-motivation with a positive attitude to work and flexibility.

 

Good interpersonal skills, attention to detail and time management are critical to the success of this placement.
