The company are seeking a bright enthusiastic student to support the Innovation Team for 1 full year. The successful candidate will be working with an international energy company that owns and operates electricity transmission and distribution networks in Southern Scotland, Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales. With around 3.3m customers, it operates in a government-regulated environment with targets set by the UK regulator Ofgem. The company has supported Year in Industry students for many years with great success stories.


Key Accountabilities

Work with our award-winning Future Networks Team to provide direct inputs and support in a full cycle innovation process: literature review, initialising and project delivery on Network Innovation. This will include working with colleagues across the organisation: from the field engineer to executives.


Activities and Responsibilities

  • Join Innovation Board meetings, understand the relationship between individual projects and the strategic priorities
  • Familiar with the national smart grid portal
  • Data collection and analysis
  • Communication of project messages
  • Co-ordination/updating of activities or actions


Critical Factors

Should have a reasonable engineering background with basic business acumen awareness and good knowledge of MS Office and in particular PowerPoint skills.



Ideally, the person would have had a part-time job previously to demonstrate business/engineering practices and awareness

  • MS Office

  • Maths and/or Physics: ideally A in Advanced Higher/Higher (Scotland) or A level (England)
