Network Rail is seeking two Finance undergraduates to join their Year in Industry scheme and start with them at the beginning of September 2020.
The company own and operate the railway infrastructure in England, Wales and Scotland on behalf of the nation. The North West & Central route (NW&C) is the ‘backbone of Britain’, representing 24% of Britain’s Railway and comprising of 571 stations and 246.5 million rail passenger journeys annually. In the five years to 2024, passenger demand is set to grow by 12% and freight by 18%. Major railway upgrade schemes to cater for this growth include HS2, East West Rail, Midlands Rail Hub and the Great North Rail Project. Undertake/ assist with Financial Reporting, Financial Analysis and Continual Improvement within the Regional Finance Team which will be used to challenge and influence executive financial decisions. Under new DEL funding rules in CP6 the emphasis on the finance team is higher than ever before and it is our responsibility to ensure funds are managed effectively and efficiently whilst successfully delivering our challenging CP6 delivery plan and ensure every penny spent is value for money.
Person Profile/Required Qualifications
You should be in your penultimate year at university, studying a finance or related numerate discipline at degree level and predicted at least a 2:1. You will need to have strong communication and ICT skills including Excel and have an interest in the rail/ transport sector. Master’s degree students in their 2nd year may also be considered.
