Supervising a course
Are you a teacher/retired teacher/ex-teacher? Have you worked with young people aged 16-17 before? Are you an ex-Inspire or Headstart student/STE(A)M university ambassador? Are you DBS certified? Do you like working with young people?
Then becoming an EDT Headstart Supervisor may be just the role for you!
This will involve the following:
Work collaboratively with the university, student ambassadors and academic leads to ensure the safety, enjoyment and well-being of the students.
Provide friendly and helpful advice to students and encourage students to engage and participate fully to gain maximum benefit from the course.
Help resolve any pastoral issues, be it dietary or health related.
Inform students of EDT's expectation of good behaviour and observation of the code of conduct.
Supervise students throughout the course, help with social activities in the evening and ensure the course runs smoothly.
“I am delighted to have supported the Headstart summer schools as a Supervisor over the past six years. During this time I have joined courses across the country and engaged with students from a variety of backgrounds. It has been an extremely rewarding experience to encourage the next generation of students to study STEM at university. The courses, without fail, inspire and instil confidence in all of the students. However, it suddenly becomes real when someone taps you on the shoulder at an industry awards evening and shares that they attended a Headstart course you supervised!”
