Maths at Lancaster University

WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?


Materials Science is an interdisciplinary subject, which combines elements of physics, chemistry, engineering and even biology. We study how the properties of a material are affected by its structure and the way it has been processed, and the subject has applications in every aspect of our daily lives, from computer chips to prosthetics and from buildings to clean energy.

Materials Science at Cambridge forms part of the Natural Sciences Tripos, which enables students to experience a wide range of subjects during their first two years of study.




WOULD THIS COURSE SUIT ME?


If you would like a challenging and intensive Insight into University course covering a range of Materials Science topics, then this is for you. A good understanding of maths and science will enable you to appreciate all aspects of Materials Science. To study for a Natural Sciences degree at Cambridge University requires the highest academic grades and a passionate interest in science – this Insight into University course reflects these requirements.

Academic staff and students will introduce you to a range of Materials Science activities which will include:


• lectures on a variety of topics, such as atomic structure, mechanical properties, and biomedical materials

COURSE DESCRIPTION


Focus on material science This course at the University of Cambridge is designed to give you an insight into Materials Science and a flavour of what life is like as an undergraduate here. You’ll be based in Churchill College but attend lectures and carry out practical work at the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy.

Mechanical Engineering at UCL

Course dates: 27th – 30th June 2022  - 3 nights residential

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?


Over the course of 4 days you will be introduced into the fundamental concepts used in robotics and autonomous systems through talks and hands-on experience. In a group challenge you will design, build and program a robot to perform a number of tasks. This will culminate in a series of competitive team events…will your robot earn you the final prize?

The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Insight into University course at Liverpool provides an introduction into the ever advancing world of robotics. The course is designed to give students the opportunity to experience what life is like as student at University of Liverpool.

WOULD THIS COURSE SUIT ME?


This course is aimed at students who have an interest in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics or autonomous systems. Applicants must be of high academic ability and studying maths and a science-based subject.




COURSE DESCRIPTION


Robotics & Autonomous Systems: Robotics and autonomous systems are starting to be ever more present in our everyday lives, from self-driving cars to in-home care systems. The government has also identified robotics and autonomous systems as one of the ‘Eight Great Technologies’ where Britain is or can be a global leader. As a result the demand for highly intelligent autonomous systems is ever increasing, as is the demand for highly qualified graduates both in academia and industry to realise such systems. The University of Liverpool is a Russell group member and is ranked in the top 1% of higher education institutions world-wide. The school of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science runs several research-led undergraduate courses which are focused around various aspects of robotics and autonomous systems. The school also fosters strong links with industry (Rolls-Royce, Bentley, AWE, etc.) and other professional bodies (IET,IEEE).
