The company is part of an international energy company and they are seeking a number of Year in Industry students in their networks division. They own and operate electricity transmission and distribution networks in Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and Southern Scotland. With around 3.3m customers. The placements are for 12 months starting at the beginning of September 2018.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/Description of Project/Post:

The company are looking for a number students.  This may be at a District level or within Investment Planning, Connections Design, Future Networks and similar business specific departments.  The majority of the work will be office based but there will be an opportunity to go out on site and there is the potential to get involved with a new technology project.  Your suitability and preference can be discussed at interview.

They have taken YINI students for a number of years and give successful students an understanding of power networks; commercial and regulatory procedures; business applications; design; new development technologies – which of these will depend on the department.

You would gain experience in producing reports, project management, resource scheduling, managing customers and supporting engineers.

The placements will involve spreadsheet and database work.

To stress, these placements are office based but opportunities would be provided to the student to gain a wider experience of the various functions in the company, through site visits and networking opportunities.

The company are looking to develop a longer-term relationship with students formed during a successful placement and you may be invited to apply for a sponsored degree or their graduate scheme.


You will have English, Maths and Science at GCSE and studying Maths (ideally Physics too) at Higher or equivalent.  As spreadsheets and databases will be a part of your work, you will be computer literate.  Good communication and interpersonal skills are also essential.

Intended degree/career pathway could be Mechanical, Electrical or Design Engineering, Maths, Physics or other numerate disciplines.
