This role will allow a graduate or undergraduate to become a member of a small team that works on the development of avionics databus test equipment (both hardware and software), specialising in the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft and its operations. This involves working closely with major aerospace clients, particularly BAE Systems. Building on this very successful heritage and experience, we are currently focussed on developing new products for the next generation of aircraft front line maintenance and support equipment, which requires GSS personnel to get ‘up close and personal’ with operational Typhoon jets and their support teams in the UK and increasingly in Europe and potentially the middle east. KEY COMPETENCIES: We are looking for a creative and ambitious individual who is comfortable working in a wide range of working environments from laboratories and major test facilities to front line aircraft operating bases. The successful candidate will be studying a degree in Electronics and ideally have some embedded software experience and / or C++.

MAIN PLACEMENT PURPOSE: We are looking for a student to support the design and development of a new high-tech machine, incorporating multiple technological innovations. A precision machining, manufacturing and product development company by background, the role will offer a mix of everyday activities with design, testing and project management. BACKGROUND: This is a specialist engineering company, with over 50 years' experience in providing custom-built, high reliability, precision instrumentation to customers from a diverse range of global markets. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (Description of Post): We are looking for a YINI student to support a design and test project, including working with external research organisations. This role will include some everyday tasks but a large amount of time will be spent on product design, running tests, analysing results, changing the design – an iterative design process. You will have the opportunity for all of the following, depending on the stage of the project: • 2D/3D drawing using CAD • Carrying out design calculations • Designing custom and bespoke machinery • Concept designs for customers • Attend design and review meetings • Practical testing of designs • Technical report writing • Assisting project manager with progress reporting • Works as an integral part of the design project team KEY COMPETENCIES (desirable) You may be a pre-university or undergraduate and your attitude is more important than your actual or intended degree. You will be able to use your own initiative and show you are a self-starter with good communication skills. You will have a keen interest in design, be analytical and logical in your approach to tasks and attention to detail is very important. Having your own car would be an advantage, but not essential.

Huddersfield Manufacturing Centre is one of their UK chemical production sites and specialises in high volume batch products for the agricultural sector. The site employs over 350 people and operates 7 production plants, utilising complex chemical processes demanding a broad range engineering support service. The site has won a number of nationally recognised awards, in particular for its effective engineering, awarded by the Chemical Industries Association. The successful student will support the Process Development team to address and improve chemical and process engineering problems on our plants and to support production. Induction and appropriate training will be provided. Students will learn technical and team working skills and will interface with people at all levels within the organisation and with suppliers. The company are looking for a year long placement student (either a pre-university student or an undergraduate), start and finish dates to be agreed/discussed. This is a technology consultancy that develops highly technical products for other companies. We work in a wide variety of areas, from novel gas flow sensors to life-saving hospital equipment. Some of the skills we use include: - mechanical design in Solidworks - fluid dynamics (both computational and analytical) - finite element analysis - general physics (e.g. electromagnetics) - electronics and firmware design including signal processing We are on the cusp of starting to develop our own products and potentially spinning out a company. We expect that you would spend a large proportion of your time helping with that process. The role is likely to be more mechanical, with plenty of Solidworks design. However, as you will typically interface with electronics, you will pick up a lot of knowledge in the other disciplines as well. Our company is a fun and relaxed place to work. We provide free soft drinks, as well as pizza on Wednesdays. By the time you start, our offices will be in Cambourne, which has good bus access from Cambridge.

Student will support a wide range of project areas within the Asset Diagnostics department, with a particular focus on Failure Investigation work and bespoke testing work. Student will likely be involved with design and set up of testing of electrical equipment, data analysis and reporting. The student will play an active role in the team with a genuine contribution to projects. The placement is ideally suited to someone wishing to broaden their engineering experience, or with particular interests in Materials or Forensics work.
