Placements

Offering young people the opportunity to gain professional development by working in industry

We work with STEM companies across the UK to provide placement opportunities for school and college leavers. These are paid placements and typically last for 12 months providing a full year in industry.

An EDT placement will give students an opportunity to continue their STEM journey after leaving school or college and take a paid gap year to help inform and shape their future career choices.  They will gain invaluable experience working in industry, develop their skills and knowledge, and boost their future employability.  We have vacancies with companies across many areas of STEM from leading FTSE 100 companies to small innovative start-ups.

EDT placements are accredited at Industrial Cadets Platinum level meaning that the student’s experience during their year in industry is quality benchmarked and recognised industry-wide.

Who’s it for?

EDT Placements are opportunities for school leavers (post A-Level/BTEC/Higher/Advanced Higher or equivalents) who are looking for paid work placements within the STEM sector.

Students can apply to the programme during their final year of A levels/ Highers/ Advanced Highers or equivalent study, for a year’s work experience prior to going to university or as a year to help decide on the future direction of their career - be that higher apprenticeship, university or work.

Why use EDT for your Placement?

EDT has over 35 years experience of placing students for a year in industry with STEM companies.  We provide CV advice and tailored interview guidance to help students increase their chances of finding a suitable placement.   If students are successful in getting a placement through EDT then they will be paid a salary by the placement company, have support during the year with a dedicated EDT volunteer mentor, have access to exclusive online masterclasses and be able to gain Platinum Level Industrial Cadets accreditation.

How do I apply?

If you are in your final year of school or college and would like to find out about our placement opportunities please register your details here.
