A major project that Matt was working on was to redesign the pump in a Mira electric shower.
Matt, who was a pupil at Dauntsey’s School, and is going on to study Mechanical Engineering at Southampton University says;
“I applied to ‘The Year in Industry’ as a gap year student and it has been really valuable. I have particularly enjoyed having specific project responsibilities that have involved me in working with teams and honing my presentation and time management skills. Working on real projects in a real industry environment has been great and I would recommend anyone to consider taking this option for a year out. As well as being paid a very useful salary I think it has given me a real career advantage over others of my own age because of the experience and the skills I have gained.”
A major project that Matt was working on was to redesign the pump in a Mira electric shower. His successful design was 42% more efficient than the original pump, providing customers with the environmental benefit of using less electricity as well as saving the company over £35,000 per year in manufacturing costs. Matt’s significant impact during his year has impressed his supervisor Peter T Green, New Product Development Support Services Manager, saying,
“Matt has made a real contribution to all the tasks he has been assigned”.
