Katie Pavey

Katie took part in three EDT schemes and has said that Year in Industry is the best career decision she has ever made. She tells us about her experience:

"During my placement I worked on improving the first time pass rate of a new range of injectors in order to improve efficiency and reduce cost. My project was really interesting as it was good a mix practical and analytical engineering. I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London. My Year in Industry has been really beneficial to me so far especially in my manufacturing engineering modules, lab work and group projects. The experience at Delphi Diesel Systems has allowed me to put into context the theory I have been taught at University. Working in Industry as part of a project team also gave me the skills and confidence to give the technical presentations and reports for my university coursework. I have already experienced the benefits that doing a Year in Industry can bring. Having a year’s practical experience at an early point in my career meant I was successful in applying to one of the most competitive sandwich placements on the market. I have just finished my Industrial placement at Williams F1 as a Junior Design Engineer where I worked on designing, drawing and developing parts for the team’s Kinetic Energy Recovery System. Having been a motorsport fan for as long as I can remember it was my idea of a dream job! I am now heading back to Imperial to complete the final two years of my course where I hope to use the skills I learnt at Williams to use on my university’s Formula Student project."
