Elaine Meskhi has taken part in three EDT schemes; a Dragonfly Day at Manchester in 2007, a Headstart general engineering course at Cambridge in 2009 and has just completed her Year in Industry placement with EPSRC. Elaine feels that the EDT has helped her make an informed decision about her career path and university course.
"It was EDT that first made me pay attention to the possibility of a career in STEM, and Headstart and YINI have both highlighted the great range of careers available. I knew I was going to study maths and science at A Level but I didn't know what to do afterwards, the Dragonfly day was my introductioon to engineering. Through Headstart I heard graduate engineering students talk about their jobs and company representatives talk about career options through that route. I have already learnt about specific roles and companies through my Year in Industry experience and in my role at EPSRC I am finding out about the whole industry" .
"Careers in STEM are more varied and interesting than I would have first thought and I have now learnt about the interdisciplinary nature of careers in STEM. My placement with EPSRC is just beginning, the benefits still to come I'm sure are numerous".
Elaine will be doing a four year MEng after her YINI placement and hopes to become a Chartered Engineer
