Who are the Royal Academy of Engineering and what is the Best Programme?

The Royal Academy of Engineering was created to represent and further the interests, skills and professional knowledge of engineers at the highest levels. The Academy honours Britain’s most distinguished engineers and aims to take advantage of the enormous wealth of engineering knowledge and experience which they possess.

The Academy offers a series of industry-education programmes funded by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, industry, government and other charitable sources. Collectively known as Best - Better engineering, science, technology, (www.raengbest.org.uk) the objectives of the programmes are:

  • to attract able young people into the engineering profession in order to ensure that UK industry has a continuing supply of high calibre, well motivated and qualified engineers
  • to enhance training and education opportunities for engineers
  • to accelerate the careers of tomorrow’s captains of industry

The Royal Academy of Engineering Best Programme is a continuum of curriculum enrichment schemes in science, engineering and technology (SET) that engages with and inspires thousands of young people in schools, colleges, universities and beyond.
