‘AVID celebrate with students on completion of STEM project’

The Engineering Education Scheme held their Celebration and Assessment Dayon Tuesday 1st April at Newcastle University, with teams of students meeting to mark the end of their 6 month STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) based projects.

Northumberland based AVID Technology were one of the local businesses that collaborated with students from Central Newcastle High. AVID worked closely with the students on a STEM based project by appointing two engineering mentors who worked with the team throughout the 6 month period. Here they guided and encouraged the students to find solutions to a real-life engineering challenge, as well as providing a demonstration of engineering techniques within the work place to give the students a hands-on experience.

AVID’s Managing Director Ryan Maughan said ‘as a technology company AVID is passionate about developing engineers of the future. We have supported the Engineering Education Scheme for a number of years as it is a great way to encourage young people to take up engineering as a career. This year we had our first all female team which was great as well. They did a fantastic job at the celebration and assessment day and we look forward to working with the school again in the future’.
