LEADING STEM PROVIDERS COMPLETE THEIR MERGER
Engineering Development Trust (EDT) and The Industrial Trust have today completed the merger announced in January. These well-established providers of work-related learning programmes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) have now become the largest provider of STEM enrichment activities for UK youth, providing schools with greatly enhanced opportunities to link STEM learning with enterprise and real-life exposure to industry and business
With 32 years combined experience, the newly merged organisation will reach 25,000 young people in its first year of operation. Working with 800 companies and more than 700 schools, the enlarged EDT will provide young people with a wide range of educational experiences of the real working world. Ranging from short visits to the work place to longer term projects and work placements, these activities (such as Open Industry, Go4SET and Engineering Education Scheme) bring classroom learning to life and make young people aware of the skills and qualifications needed by industry and enterprise through close contact with potential employers.
Business and Educators will benefit from the merger by having access to a wide range of complementary programmes offered by one organisation with nationwide scale and reach.
Students will benefit from having a continuum of related but wide-ranging activities from age 8 through to university, with options to suit every level and interest.
As part of this expansion, both organisations will play a key role in ‘Tomorrow’s Engineers’, an engineering enhancement and enrichment programme being rolled out by EngineeringUK and the Royal Academy of Engineering, with support from Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust.
