Go4SET enters the curriculum

Now in it's fourth year Go4SET continues to demonstrate its flexibility and effectiveness across all of the Key Stage 3 age group (11-14 years). During the summer term of 2009 Trinity Catholic High School in Woodford Green participated in a pilot variant of the EDT’s scheme Go4SET. The Trinity pilot involved a Year 7 Science class, the project taking place in Science lessons over a 9 week period.

The school hosted the Scheme Launch and Celebration and Assessment Day with a large number of parents attending the presentation ceremony. STEM ambassadors supported the teacher and pupils during the project phase.

Teacher, Javed Shujaat felt the Go4SET project based on Water Conservation in the school was a huge success.

“Go4SET enthused the pupils from day one and considerably extended their personal learning skills at the same time promoting STEM understanding. Each of the five teams had an excellent relationship with the STEM industrial mentors who supported the pupils throughout and the very effective company visit added relevance to the project and enhanced the youngsters’ creativity and innovation”.

Trinity is now considering offering Go4SET to an entire year group using a carousel delivery model. Mark Williams the EDT Education Director was particularly pleased that Go4SET had shown it's impact within the taught curriculum. "Feedback from the pupils, teacher and mentors was extremely positive. Pupils demonstrated a real empathy with the issues of water conservation and heightened awareness of STEM within a global context."
