The Year in Industry Contribution to the Business Awards 2009 - South East Regional Final Coming Soon

The Contribution to the Business (CTTB) Awards is a great opportunity for our students to record and celebrate what they have achieved in their gap-year with The Year in Industry (YINI).

The CTTB Awards offers the chance to win big prizes and gain a prestigious accolade to add to student’s CVs. The students submit their entries by the end of April and are short listed by three judges before going on to the regional finals. An independent set of assessors from industry will select which students go to the national finals in London.

Cash prizes and awards will be offered by YINI companies and various institutions at both the regional and national finals. Students who go on to the national finals will attend a high profile event on Tuesday 15th September. The event gives some excellent networking opportunities and the chance for YINI students to promote themselves, their company and YINI.

Kunashe Tarusenga from the South East Region last year won the DSTL prize for Best Science and Engineering Application at the National Final for his project with the Association of Train Operating Companies.

Kunashe assisted with facilitating and coordinating the implementation of the RailBAM system trial (a new process for monitoring bearings based on acoustics), to prove it could minimise the impact and management of defective bearings and thereby reduce costs and enhance safety procedures for the rail system. The potential cost reduction from the implementation of RailBAM on the national rail system could save £4.2 million per annum if universally adopted.

Last year, 7 regional finalists from the South East potentially saved their placement companies a combined amount of approximately £5.6 million.

The South East Regional Final is being held at UCL on 3rd June, 4pm – 7.30pm. The closing date for entries is Monday 27th April.
