Students return to GKN

Denis Evans MBE is a Regional Co-ordinator for EDT and tells us about how students taking part in The Year in Industry have returned to GKN following their placements.

GKN are sponsors of EDT and have been involved with The Year in Industry for over fifteen years. In that time nearly seventy students have had a GKN work placement organised by the scheme. Many of these individuals have now completed university and have embarked upon their career in science, engineering and technology. Here are some of these students who have returned to GKN.

Matthew Hill After doing YINI, followed by a part-time Degree course at The University of Central England, Matthew is now a test Engineer at GKN Autostructures.

Matt Mills was a YINI student in GKN Driveline at Walsall and decided to change to do an Apprenticeship there. He is studying for his final years of a Degree.

Doug Shaw After completing a Mechanical Engineering Degree, Doug returned to GKN Autostructures in Telford as a Sales Executive covering Landrover. Moving to Driveline Division, he is now Global Commercial Manager for GKN Driveline Division (Ford) of Europe and Asia. He is now based in Koln speaking fluent German.

Bachrun Mason also worked in Design in his YINI placement. Having completed a Masters Degree at Cambridge, he is now working at GKN Autostructures as a Design Engineer.

Geraint Phillips Having spent a year in the Design Department at GKN Autostructures as a YINI student after completing a four year Degree Course at Bristol, Geraint has now returned to GKN as a resident Engineer working in Ford Dunton.

Chris Furniss worked at GKN in the Purchase Department after completing an Automotive Design course at Coventry. He is now working as a Buyer and SQA Engineer at GKN Autostructures.
