Local schools take part in First Edition days

A First Edition day was held at the University of Surrey on the 9th December and at Cheltenham Ladies College on the 10th December where over 130 pupils took part. Local schools were invited to enter teams of students to participate in a hands on activity day where they were given the opportunity to put STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) into practice by designing, building and testing model structures.

Top National Award for Engineering Education Scheme Teacher

Congratulations to Peter Buckley, an EDT teacher who has won the 2009 Stephenson Award. Peter has been a Mathematics teacher at Watford Grammar School for 20 years and is also the Business Links Coordinator for the school. Peter has been involved with the Engineering Education Scheme (EES) for 8 years and has been responsible for over 60 students participating in the EES, many of whom are now studying engineering or have taken up a career in this field.

Go4SET enters the curriculum

Now in it's fourth year Go4SET continues to demonstrate its flexibility and effectiveness across all of the Key Stage 3 age group (11-14 years). During the summer term of 2009 Trinity Catholic High School in Woodford Green participated in a pilot variant of the EDT’s scheme Go4SET. The Trinity pilot involved a Year 7 Science class, the project taking place in Science lessons over a 9 week period.

EDT launches an expanded Widening Participation portfolio, starting with First Edition

Headstart at the EDT has been developing a number of specialised diversity modules linked to its courses during the last five years, to a position where around 1000 additional students aged 13 to 15 took part in Insight, Dragonfly, Spectrum or First Edition during 2009.

Go4SET: Celebrating pupils success in the East Midlands

On the 13th of March, eleven schools from around the East Midlands gathered at Nottingham Trent University's Centre for Effective Learning in Science to showcase their Go4SET projects. The IET continue to support the EDT. Sally Davidson Jones, the Student Community Manager comments, “The IET are delighted to be associated with the EESE Scheme.
