First Edition
About
Why?
First Edition has been designed to widen participation by encouraging students from diverse groups to consider courses and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). First Edition helps develop personal skills whilst raising careers awareness. By informing choice we are helping young people shape their future.
What?
Through the First Edition programme, EDT has been able to offer engaging ‘hands-on’ curriculum enrichment days focussed on stimulating interest in young people towards STEM, both as subjects in their own right and as potential career pathways.
The events have been designed to encourage creativity and innovation through practical team based activities allied to extensive problem solving. During the days, the students will take part in designing, building and testing a model as well as having the opportunity to find out more about a range of careers which will inspire and inform them at a time when they are making decisions about their option choices.
Who, Where, When?
These exciting one day events take place throughout the academic year at schools, universities and colleges across the UK and are typically aimed at students between 11 to 16 years of age from under-represented groups. These groups include girls, ethnic minorities and first in family to consider higher education. However, schools and colleges have the flexibility to choose any target group of students they feel will benefit most from the experience.
Reasons to Get Involved
First Edition has been designed to be flexible and to suit school requirements and is intended to be the first step towards the EDT continuum of schemes as well as to a range of other STEM educational programmes.
