Welcome to EDT / Inspiring future engineers & scientists

First Edition

First Edition is part of the Widening Participation programme which aims to encourage pupils from under-represented groups with a current focus on pupils who will be ‘first in family’, to consider higher education and courses and careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

First Edition offers fun and exciting curriculum enrichment days to pupils in Year 7 - 10 (England and Wales) / S1 - S4 (Scotland) (11 to 15 year olds) of all abilities and they will be taking place at universities and schools across England and Wales throughout the year. The days are designed to encourage creativity and innovation through hands on practical activities focused on team working and problem solving. First Edition is intended to be the first step to a range of STEM-related education options.

The courses are designed to be flexible to suit school requirements.

Peter Crompton from Fortismere has been involved with EDT’s First Edition.

"My group thoroughly enjoyed their First Edition experience. The 'fun hands on activities' were true to their name and gave all the youngsters an opportunity to experience genuine teamwork and problem solving. As well as having a great time the pupils gained a real insight into Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths in a university environment. With option choice looming they now have valuable information that will help them make informed choices. There was a real buzz about the whole day with all the pupils fully engaged and motivated by the well organised tasks. Their creativity was challenged and benefited them greatly."

A small contribution is required, which covers the cost for the administration and coordination of the day although teachers should let us know if help with funding is required.
