EDT Skills Camp

If you are a student who loves science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects and you're in Year 11, 12 or 13 you're probably wondering what route whether as an apprentice or at university you might want to take to help you into a STEM career? Likewise you may be wondering what skills engineers use to solve problems in the real world? And finally you might be thinking how do I challenge myself to get those skills, so I can solve those problems too?

If you are asking any of those or similar questions the EDT Skills Camp is designed for you!

Based on 30 years experience of running the popular Engineering Education Scheme, EDT Skills Camp offers young people the chance to work on an exciting weeklong real life engineering challenge working alongside mentors from leading engineering companies.

EDT Skills Camp is set up to replicate working in a commercial engineering project team. Through a structured project timetable and the support of the engineering mentor (who will act as a project manager) the students will be introduced to the skills needed to complete an engineering project. These include:

  • Project management
  • Engineering decision making
  • Technical skills
  • Team work
  • Communication etc

The project ends with each group doing a 10 minute presentation/pitch to a group of engineering managers on their project and recommendations. A small group of engineering managers will assess and this will be followed by a graduation event.

Alongside developing core engineering employability skills the students will learn about apprentice and graduate career pathways. Students will gain a silver level Industrial Cadets accreditation
