Why Electronics?

We live in a high-tech world where electronics plays a vital part in virtually every aspect of our lives from health-care to transport, from communications to the environment. Exciting developments in electronic engineering are fostering ever more innovative products which  improve our  lives.  So many of us have a  ‘smart’phone packed with electronics  -  but , in the future,  we could see ‘smart’ cities with electronic solutions to control  transportation, energy consumption and water use.

However, none of these advances would be possible without the creative work of electronic engineers.

Electronic  engineers  create amazing solutions to tackle global  problems. Advances in electronic technology have been rapid over the last few decades but there is more to come. You could be part of an amazing future!

What will I be doing?

The course will be run by the Department of Electronic Engineering and aims to excite you about studying electronic engineering at university. It will also provide a flavour of the academic side of undergraduate life.

Over the course of 4 days you will learn more about creative electronic engineering through a mixture of talks, lab work and hands-on activities. Amongst other things, you will learn how to make your own gesture-controlled musical synthesizer and programme a robot in a challenge event.

You will live in student rooms on campus, and there’ll also be  time for independent and social activities, including a visit to the beautiful city of York.

The course will show you how stimulating, varied and creative electronic engineering can be as a career and the important role it plays in the technological advances valued by society.
