What is it all about?

The broad based Engineering course at Northumbria University will give you an insight into the different types of engineering degrees on offer at Northumbria University. These are: Civil Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Architectural Engineering; Automotive Engineering; Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Construction Engineering Management.

If you enjoy the challenge of creative problem solving, in applying mathematics and science, and want to learn about prestigious degrees that will provide a clear career path upon graduation then this course is suitable for you. From water storage to the delivery of energy systems and iconic structures, engineers create the large and small- scale infrastructure that makes our daily lives possible. This course will introduce you to a huge range of engineering disciplines and the course will include local field study trips and workshops within our new laboratory facilities to enhance your learning experience.

What will I be doing?

You will stay on campus in student accommodation and our students will assist throughout the course to provide advice, guidance and an insight to student life here in Newcastle upon Tyne.

You will take part in a wide range of activities that first year undergraduates would do, including:

  • Attend university-style lectures and seminars
  • Participate in lab sessions
  • Complete a project in your groups
  • Present your findings in a ‘poster presentation’
  • Discover about careers in Engineering

Plus you will receive admissions advice on how to make the most of your University applications as well as careers information from current Engineers.


Would this course suit me?

If you enjoy the challenge of creative problem solving, applying strong mathematical skills to real-life problems, and are interested in a career making the world we all live in a better place, then this course is for you.  You will need to be able to work as part of a team, think outside the box, and able to communicate and present your ideas clearly to an audience.  If you come along ready to work hard, learn a lot and have fun, then you won’t go home disappointed!
